Hi folks, thanks for stopping by to check my updates. Well, Christmas is nearly upon us and many of us are wondering what to buy those special people for Christmas. While many of us may not be giving much thought to our waist lines, there's no way around all of the sweets and goodies that may be coming our way soon. Besides, New Year's Resolutions usually don't last, so why not start a new tradition of taking our health to heart one day at a time by choosing healthier snacks, exercising, and drinking more water now. There's no time like the present...and speaking of presents, one of the best presents I can think of for a friend or loved one is the gift of a fitness professional for guidance and training. Did I happen to mention that I have gift certificates available for that very thing? I could definitely help you out!
Some tips that may help out during the holidays:
1. Eat your Christmas dinner on a luncheon plate instead of a dinner plate.
2. Drink 1 glass of cold water before and during your meal.
3. Start Christmas dinner with a salad seasoned with your favorite herbs, 1/2 tsp. lemon juice, and flax seed oil or a very light vinaigrette.
4. As always, eat a small meal every 3 hours so you aren't saving your appetite for the one big gorge!
5. Plan exercise into your Holiday activities. Take a walk each evening just to see the Christmas lights around your neighbourhood...it could be a 20-30 minute walk that can make your day cheery!
6. Take your weight and measurements once a week from now until the New Year so you have a measurable and accountable gauge for your success.
7. Do something nice and unexpected for someone who you don't know or haven't spoken to in a long time...give anonymously and feel the warmth and satisfaction of smiling from the inside out!
8. Find ways of reducing your stress. Meditate and do your Christmas shopping BEFORE 6pm on Christmas Eve! :o)
I'm here, as always, to answer questions and encourage you to find your intrinsic motivation for keeping fit and healthy!

Wow, 6 month's in business!
Hi everyone!
Well, I've been 6 months in business now and things are going quite well. My schedule is quickly booking up for fall, but no worries...there are still a few training time slots available. So if you or anyone else you know would like an elite trainer to come into your home or office to spare you a trip outside to the gym in the colder weather, this type of training will be for you! Plus, you'll save on gym fees, because I have none! :o) So get the kids back to school and make some time for your fitness....I'll literally save you time! Just look at what Rod Gillis has to say about having me come to his home as his personal trainer:

Personal Situation:
I am a lawyer and a business person who has an extremely busy schedule. Managing my time effectively is of crucial importance for both my health and my business.
My Reasons for Exercise:
In order to do all of the activities I want to do as I age there is an ever-increasing need to maintain and develop one’s fitness and health.
My Personal Trainer:
Amy Havens has a degree in kinesiology and substantial experience in the field of health and fitness. She was able to assess the exercise equipment in my home and was able to develop a home fitness routine that worked each major muscle group. The workout is the same – if not more focused – than what I have experienced in a gym. Amy also uses my house to create a workout – from running up and down stairs to doing triceps curls using the backside of a door. Amy closely monitors my progress and adapts my program as necessary in order to keep my fitness at an optimum level.
Health and Timetabling Result:
My physical health remains very good and after each session I have increased state of energy that lasts several hours. I have maintained a routine that keeps a high level of physical exercise. As an example of this, I tore my rotator cuff several years ago. Amy has built the muscles up around this so that I could avoid difficult surgery. Moreover, as the exercise is now part of my daily life – indeed, unavoidable as Amy shows up at my door – it is not possible to find excuses to avoid exercise. Having a personal trainer who comes to my house and works me hard – with nothing else impacting on my attention – for almost an hour is simply an unparalleled experience. By working at home, the travel time to and from the gym is eliminated – and getting changed at home means that I do not have to worry about packing gym clothes/work clothes and keeping these in my car. Crucially, for my work and lifestyle, I have saved over 3 hours a week that would have otherwise been spent in preparing to go to the gym and returning thereafter.
Judy Gillis – Customer Endorsement
I had a revelation in my early 50s when at a wedding. I took off my jacket because it was a hot day and I was wearing a sleeveless dress. Catching sight of my arms – which time and gravity were rendering into arms I did not recognize! – I realized that I had to make a commitment to getting back my body. I started training with personal trainers and have been with Amy for over two years. In that time, I have regained the energy and form that I wanted. I have an extremely high level of energy, can lift my 40-pound granddaughters, can run up and down stairs and can now wear sleeveless tops! This is all the result of the work I have done with Amy. She is always encouraging me to work that little bit harder which results in a visible level of higher performance – and she pays careful attention to developing my personal program. Instead of slowly slipping into old age – or into an old body! – I am maintaining my level of fitness and keeping myself in very good condition.
It is so important to me as a trainer that my clients get the results they want and remain happy and healthy for years to come. If you've found yourself relating to these testimonials, just remember that I am here for you and I can help you find a way to keep fitness a part of your life!
Until next time.... Yours in health and fitness, Amy

The Background of Fit To Go
Hi and welcome to the opening of my new business Fit To Go Inc!
I want to share a little background on who I am and how my company has come to be. Ever since I can remember, I have always had competitive involvement with school sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, badminton, and softball. This passion for fitness and athletic activities normally placed me in a leadership position on our varsity teams as a captain or co-captain. Through the years I continued with a passion and love for fitness when I invested in a fitness facility as a part owner in 1994. In March of 1996 I made my normal trip to the gym for a workout, leaving my 3 dogs (Blaze, a 2 year old Bullmastiff; Rojah, a 1 year old Neapolitan Mastiff; and Mali, a 6 month old Bullmastiff) at home for a couple of hours. Upon my return I noticed white smoke rolling from the roof of our old farm house. With my heart in my throat and pounding in my chest I couldn't get down the slushy driveway fast enough, and barely put the truck in park before I jumped out and ran to the door to save my dogs. The smoke was too thick and I had to accept the fact that there was nothing I could do to save my babies.
As you can imagine, this was a pivotal turning point in my life and ever since that frightful day I live my life with a bit more meaning (which is why I love my job as a personal trainer....but we'll get to this eventually....let's get on with the story!) This event lead to my eventual selling of my shares in the fitness facility in Woodstock and I set out for a renewed start in our capital city, Fredericton. Not long after the move, I took over as the manager of Kingswood Fitness for a few years, and it wasn't long after that, that I found out I was pregnant with my son Nathaniel.
What a joy motherhood brings! I really LOVE being a mom! :o) Unfortunately in my situation, it also brought the certainty of single parenthood, so I decided that I would go back to University to attain the degree that would back-up all of my work experience. It took me 2 1/2 years to obtain my Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology all while raising a toddler on my own (with the help of my sister....thanks Shel!!) AND I am pleased to say I also made the Dean's List! I guess you can say I am proud of that, not pompus or egotistical, just genuinely proud of what God has helped me to accomplish.
Once I had my degree I moved to Saint John to live with my mom (thank God for moms! I happen to have a very helpful, caring, and supportive mother, so thanks mom for all you do!). I put my resume together with full intentions to move out West for a job in the fitness field, but was surprised when I found one here in the Port City as a Membership Councillor with a local fitness chain. I quickly realized that BIG business in the fitness field often meant that the personal touch was lost, so I headed out to Quispamsis to talk with Janet Flood about joining her team at BodyPlus as a personal trainer. IT WAS HERE THAT I REALIZED THAT MY PASSION IS IN COACHING, MOTIVATING, EDUCATING, AND HELPING PEOPLE REACH THEIR FITNESS AND LIFESTYLE GOALS! I found personal training to be the most gratifying job that I have ever had. Perhaps it was the lovely people of Quispamsis and Rothesay that I have the distinct pleasure of working with each week that are to be commended for my instant love affair with this job, (Thank-you to those clients that I continue to work with--You make my job so enjoyable! I can honestly say, "I love my job" and few people in this world can say that and truly mean it!) or perhaps it has always been my calling and the work that I've done throughout the years was simply grooming me for what I am doing right now.
I have officially opened a new company called Fit To Go Inc. just this week! My business focuses on individual and corporate fitness with training programs tailored to your personal and/or job-related physical fitness needs. Fit To Go Inc. covers other areas of wellness including nutrition and healthy eating choices guided by Registered Dietiticians, and massage therapy to help relieve stress, aches, and tension to help you feel renewed after your workouts.
